Technicolor Christmas

I'm really a traditionalist at heart, white lights, real tree, nutcrackers, and red bows (that's what my childhood Christmas was made of). But I'm really loving all of these happy colors for Christmas this year. Actually I noticed that it's whole lot of pink, do you think that could be influenced by the little baby girl I have in my belly??!!??

I hope you are having a bright and cheery Wednesday.
Good luck in getting your last min. things done for Christmas.

Hello Doily..........

This week is officially "get the gifts wrapped and get them in the mail" week. So if you haven't wrapped yours yet get to steppin'. This is a really inexpensive way to personalize ordinary paper and add a little decorative flourish without having to worry about gift tags or bows or any of that jazz. Just get a few paper doilies at your supermarket, craft store etc. and some twine or double stick tape and you are good to go with a gift that looks pretty under the tree.

 Have fun wrapping!

Big News!

Sorry I've been MIA for a while! Actually a few months! I'll try to be better at posting I promise.

So the big news is that Ben and I are having a little girl!! We are so excited that apparently I've been sort of a slacker lately! The little lady is due March 17th. I have been busy dreaming up the nursery. Here is my design plan. Over the Christmas break I am going to try to tackle a few of these projects and I'll post the updates!

I'm glad to be back in blog world. :) Thanks for sticking around! :)

The Shades: Roller shades with ribbon detail I plan to make.
The Chair: Registered for at Babies R US. (least expensive with the most style I've been looking everywhere!!)
Crib: Jenny Lind in White
Armoire: Lucky find on Craigslist (I plan on painting it white and adding Anthropologie knobs)
(ambitious plan with the armoire is to also wallpaper the inside!)
Rug: Oversock.com steel of a rug! Only $147.00
Mobile: Ben's uncle is going to make it for me. Oragami animals
Artwall: Antlers: West Elm, Art: Etsy, Letters: Urban Outfitters
Table: West Elm or a Craigslist find and paint!
Fur: Ikea
Chandelier: Ikea
Paint: Gray
Bedding: Etsy custom bedding.

Wow looks like I have tons to do. This will give me lots to tell you about. :) You can also check out my design board on Pinterest!

Happy last weekend of Summer.....

We are going to spend Labor day at the end of our friend's dock with a fishing pole and a bbq. I hope you have a a great weekend with your friends and family. We might be able to sneak some beach time in this weekend as well! Living in Florida we don't get to see that much of a break in the seasons, but just the thought of fall and a pinch less humidity has got me all excited.  Welcome to September ! Enjoy!

How to get great family photos.......

Sorry I've been MIA for a little while. It seems I have a million things going at once. Hopefully I will get myself under control and be able to get organized to blog to you guys a little more.

This post is in response to a few of my friends who are looking to take a few family photos. It's always tricky to know what to wear and how matchy matchy you should get. Below are a few good tips.

1) Coordinate your family's style. Avoid the family uniform

It should go without saying to never dress your family alike; It's kind of boring and expected. Pick a few colors and stick with them. Always make sure that someone in the group is wearing a print or accessory with all of the colors to bring everything together.

2) Wear something that makes you feel good

This sounds obvious but it's really important and can really make or break a shoot. Everyone needs to feel happy and relaxed to generate real, authentic smiles. On-location photography can move quickly so opt for something that is easy to move in. Bring those 4 inch heels but wear something comfortable to get you between locations.

3) Embrace bold colors and patterns but keep it balanced

Some photographers steer people away from bold colors and patterns. That's such a shame because beautiful colors and patterns are everywhere. The key to pulling this off is to make sure to use bold color sparingly, treat it like an accessory. Patterns should be balanced with a simple choice for other family members.

4) Accessories and layers are key to looking like you had multiple wardrobe changes

One of the easiest ways to give your photo session a diverse look without forcing your family to perform multiple wardrobe changes in a parking lot is to bring several types of layers and accessories. Think sweaters, coats, hats, and scarves. Accessories can be pulled on and off easily which creates lots of different looks, not to mention they act as fun props.

5) A special tip for a mom who wants to look thin: wear the same color from head to toe

You can trick the camera but creating a long line from head to toe if you stay in the same color. Choose a mid-tone color such as a blue or brown. Always avoid wearing lighter colors on the bottom as the eye is attracted to the lightest part of a photograph, therefore accentuating your hips.

Also, here are the obvious Photo shoot No-no's:

• avoid clothing with words or logos

• don't get haircuts the day before, they always need a few days to look best

• avoid anything too trendy otherwise you'll hate the images in a few months

• don't force several wardrobe changes on kids, stick to no more than 2 great looks and you'll keep your little one happy

The bottom line is to have fun with your family's photo shoot. Take a little time to prepare for the shoot day. Have a few backup articles of clothing in case of disaster and consult with your photographer beforehand. You'll be sure to love the images knowing that your family was comfortable and looking their best.

Stylish Shelves

One of the blog followers asked me to help her with styling her bookshelf. Maybe some of you would like the same advice. Bookshelves can be tricky, and it's all about composition really. Here are some good tips.

a.) Group like things together.
b.) Odd number arrangements of objects looks great in a vignette.
c.) Turn a few books on their side.
d.) A bookcase doesn't always have to be about the books, add in a few unique objects and artwork.
e.) A little contrast goes a long way.
f.) Baskets or boxes do wonders. Hide all of that clutter.

Here are a few bookcases styled beautifully.

Anthropologie + Chevron = Love

Ok first of all I think most of you know by now, but I'm just going to say it. I have a chevron obsession. I don't know what it is but it draws me in every time. I found these great chevron prints at Anthropologie ( With Anthropologie I'm not obsessed but I might be a catagory 2 stalker). The pillows are even on sale!

P. S. You can check out my Pinterest board on my chevron obsession HERE:

Kid Stuff
These are a few really great ideas, cheap or free with a little imagination. This is fun for all of those mom's that have the kids home for the summer and need to occupy their time. Try these :)
 *These are tp rolls!
 * Just a little cardboard,  some magic markers, and a hole punch.
 * Aluminum foil, rolls of paper towls or rolled up dish towls, and tissue paper.
* Water, paint brush, and a driveway.

Have fun this week with the kiddo's. Even if it's just the neighbor's kids! I love the wings on the shoes!

Soap Savy
I just changed my dish soap container into an olive oil decanter. It looks so much cuter than my regular dawn dish soap bottle. These little things shouldn't make me so happy. The next thing on my list is to change my laundry soap and dryer sheets into pretty little containers. The dryer sheets when they are left out make the room smell so good!
