Theory - News Flash

Theory is launching it's first ever e-commerce site this spring. It's ok to get excited. :)

Room of the day. I love everything about this room especially the subtle chevron pattern on the wall.  I found a cool tutorial on how you can do this yourself. Nothing is as inexpensive and instantly gratifying as paint.

PS. Just so you know my favorite fabric pattern in the world is that Schumacher Chiang Mai Dragon in Aquamarine.

*Image unkown but if you know who did it please let me know. I love it.

Coffee Tables

Here are some great options for a coffee table. They can either be a statment piece or just a functional place to prop your feet up and a place for your slice of pizza. Just remember a few things:

1. If your place is small think about a glass or acrylic this will make the table shrink away and it will look like you have more space.

2. Another small space tip is that if your table matches your flooring or rug it will also visually disappear.

3. You don't always have to have one table, mix it up and have two or three small tables. This way they can be moved around for extra seating or act as your own personal tv tray!

4. If you have kids always think of rounded edges.

5. Think of the scale of your sofa and the table, you don't want a very small table and a giant sofa, no one will even be able to reach it.

6. Round or Square?? Round options work great in an L shaped setting and a rectagle shape works great in a parallel setting. There is no set rule though try what works for you.

There are a few fun options that I found:

Cheap Monday

I have been loving this little chair since I found it at Design Within Reach in Miami a few weeks ago.

It is a pricey chair designed by Eames and sells for $479.00

This chair I found at and is only $166.99
I think it would be perfect for a nursery or playroom.

Design Dilemma - Kitchen

White Appliances + Outdated Cabinets + Limited Funds  =  ??????

My sister called me last night with this design dilemma and I'm sure that some of you have the same problems. Here is a picture of her kitchen:

Paint + Backsplash + Countertops + Color + DIY = Happy Kitchen

I think the best way to tackle this one is to embrace the white. Paint all of the cabinets white and diminish the look of the appliances. Then add a nice paint color like a spa blue or a fresh green to the walls then add a backsplash in either white subway tiles or glass tiles with a hint of color. My sister is getting new countertops so my advice on this one would be to try to get one that contrasts with the white. Another easy fix that doesn't cost too much is to get a new light fixture, maybe a pendant from ikea and a roman shade for above the window. Lastly add some knobs and handles in the same finish as your faucet. This will add some shine and bling (just like jewelry). Here are a few pics for inspiration.

If you think all of that white will wash out the space try painting the island a different color or even the inside of the cabinets. The cabinets might also look nice painted in a gray color, that is a really big trend this year.

You could also make a statement with the backsplash like this ikea kitchen. A fun option that cost's less than wallpaper and is easier to clean is contact paper for the backsplash. Just make sure that you pick an updated print and cut it carefully or it will look sloppy.

I'll let you know what she deciedes. :)
